Rick Psonak earned a MS at the University of Connecticut in 1989. He completed an orthotics and prosthetics fellowship in 2002 from the American Academy of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
Before joining the UMMC faculty, Psonak worked as a staff prosthetist at Capital Prosthetics and Orthotics in Raleigh, NC, from 1985-87; as a clinical coordinator for the Newington Children’s Hospital in Newington, CT, from 1987-90; as manager of Central Prosthetics and Orthotics in Greensboro, NC, from 1990-91; as vice president of Control Prosthetics and Orthotics in Winston-Salem, NC, from 1991-93; as a program director for Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center from 1993-2002; and as president and owner of Synergy Prosthetic Research.
In addition, he successfully fit the first bilateral transfemoral amputee with computerized knees and has performed orthotics and prosthetics mission work in France and the Ukraine. Psonak joined our faculty in April 2003 and brings his knowledge of prosthetics and orthotics to the University.
