The Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation is involving in various aspects of research with medical implications.

Biological research

The lab and office areas for the Department of Orthopedics' biological research area are located on the third floor in the north wing of the University Hospital, next to the resident conference center and skills lab area.

Research interest areas include:

• Macrophage signaling in response to wear debris and oxidants
• Identification of biological factors that are associated with implantable devices and their acceptance or rejection by the host
• Proteoglycan synthesis by fibroblast in cell culture and in vivo
• Factors associated with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome
• Development of animals models to assess bone healing
