Dr. Russell earned his BS degree in biology at Denison University in 1988 and his MD at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1992. He subsequently completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He is a graduate of the MBA program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Dr. Russell joined the UMMC faculty in 2000 after serving as assistant professor of orthopedic trauma and physician assistant studies at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. At UMMC, he has become one of the region’s leading orthopedic trauma surgeons and currently serves as medical director for the orthopedics service and chairman. He has authored or co-authored many published articles and presents both nationally and internationally on his specialty of orthopedic trauma.
He is consistently recognized in the national “Best Doctors’ ranking and has served as president of the Mississippi Orthopaedic Society and in leadership roles within the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
