Faculty Development and Scholarship
The Office of Research and Scholarship was established in 2011 as part of a renewed, formal commitment by the Department of Medicine to support the academic career development of all its faculty and trainees.
The Faculty Development and Scholarship (FDS) program, one arm of this initiative, is specifically committed to support all types of scholarship for all faculty members, including clinicians, clinician educators, clinician investigators and physician scientists, acknowledging that the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and the University of Mississippi Medical Center values all the essential roles filled by faculty with differing interest and career paths.
The Department of Medicine is dedicated to supporting all academic pursuits which further the missions of the university and UMMC.
As a work in progress, the Faculty Development and Scholarship initiative will grow over its initial years to add services and resources identified by the Department of Medicine faculty as important to productivity in one or more types of scholarship as defined by the Ernest Boyer model: Discovery, Integration, Application and Education.
Our goal is to establish a robust, diverse, flexible development program which provides individualized, continuous, career-long support to every faculty member, helping each to maximize their chosen contributions to the health care field. We are constantly searching for new ideas, services, resources, and tools to further the academic careers of our faculty members, and welcome any suggestions.
