    The division’s board-certified academic rheumatologists and rheumatology fellows provide consultative services at University Hospital, the University Medical Pavilion, the Jackson VA Medical Center. The division maintains vigorous outpatient services at the VA Medical Center and the Medical Pavilion.

    Robert McMurray, MD has been Division Director over the past 5 years, administering divisional growth and development and providing guidance and supervision of the divisional clinical, educational, and research services and programs. In addition to overseeing current operations, Dr. McMurray provides clinical care in the Pavilion and on general medicine wards. He welcomes any questions and interest in the Division of Rheumatology.

    Dannette Johnson, DO, has been a faculty member for five years. She joined us after completing a chief residency at Boston University and rheumatology fellowship at University of Texas-Southwestern in Dallas. In addition to her clinical services, Johnson is participating in a multi-center VA study on rheumatoid arthritis. She has recently gained approval to examine the role of gonadal and pituitary hormones in men with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

    Lisa Maher, MD,recently joined us after relocating from Dallas, TX. She was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Maher completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She joins us as a Clinical Associate
    Professor as well as an attending to our four fellows.

    Vikas Majithia, MD, is the division's fellowship program director and has been recognized for excellence in teaching at the departmental and institutional levels and in the School of Medicine. He provides educational and clinical support to the medical student and house staff teaching programs, attends on general medicine wards, and has increased the division's clinical practice at the VA Medical Center and Medical Pavilion. Majithia has recently MPH from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD. He has multiple clinical research projects in systemic lupus erythematosus, spondyloarthropathies and osteoporosis.

    Suzanne Sanders, MD, provides clinical and educational services at the VA Medical Center, coordinates clinical review and immunology conferences, and was instrumental in developing the division’s fellowship program and certification. Sanders was recently promoted to Associate Chief of Medical Subspecialties at the VA Medical Center and while assuming an expanded leadership role, continues to provide clinical care at the VA Hospital.

    Two of the Division’s fellowship program graduates have joined the faculty. Dr. Jason Taylor holds a joint position at UMHC and the VA Medical Center, provides additional clinical and educational services while developing his scholarly pursuits. Recently, Dr. Amrit Sandhu joined the faculty in further expansion of its clinical services through University Physicians.

    Recently, Dr. Eric Lirio, MD, joined the faculty in further expansion of its clinical services through University Physicians.
