Tatum Visiting Professorship in Medical Ethics
In 1999, the chairman and faculty of the Department of Family Medicine established an endowment in memory of their colleague, Dr. Nancy O'Neal Tatum, to fund a visiting Professorship in Medical Ethics annually at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Tatum had been on the Department of Family Medicine faculty at UMMC since 1993. In addition to her teaching duties, she was chiefly responsible for establishing the Medical Center's formal ethics program, which included continuing education on ethical issues and an ethics advisory committee.
The Tatum Visiting Professorship will include an annual lectureship by distinguished faculty in the field of medical ethics, and seminars for all UMMC health professionals on the complex issues of bioethics.
