Dr. Patrick O. Smith joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1995. He holds the rank of professor and is a clinical psychologist. Until 2010, he held a full-time appointment with the department and was actively involved in residency training.
He established and directed the health ssychology fellowship from 1999-2010 during which time his research interests focused on tobacco cessation. In 2010, he was appointed associate dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Medicine and became a part-time faculty member within the Department of Family Medicine.
He has served in numerous leadership roles at the state and national level, including the Mississippi Psychological Association, Mississippi Board of Psychology, Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers and the National Register for Healthcare Providers in Psychology.
Dr. Smith is licensed in Mississippi, is credentialed by both the Association of State and Provincial Boards of Psychology and the National Register and is board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology (Clinical).
He provides evidence-based psychological treatments to adults through the Department of Family Medicine with a special focus on anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors and chronic disease management.
