  • Emergency Medicine Elective Rotations

    Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The student rotations are open to all fourth year medical students at UMMC as well as to all students from accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical schools in the United States wishing to do an externship.

    Our department is dedicated to providing a quality experience for all students. While obviously students in interested in emergency medicine as a career are welcome, we also encourage students not planning on a career in emergency medicine to take advantage of the unique experiences we provide.

    The Department of Emergency Medicine offers five fourth-year elective rotations. All electives are four weeks or one calendar month in length.

    Visiting students

    We welcome students from all accredited allopathic and osteopathic U.S. medical schools. If you have a sincere interest in emergency medicine and are interested in learning more about the specialty or more about our program specifically, then we encourage you to arrange an externship position with us.

    Clinical diversity elective program.

    The Clinical Diversity Elective Program (CDEP) is a program run through UMMC’s Department of Multicultural Affairs which provides up to $2,000 to defray travel and lodging expenses for visiting senior medical students.
