    Biographical Information

    Dr. Teresa Mixon Perkins is a 1981 graduate of Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Afterwards, she received specialty education in the fields of oral pathology and pediatric dentistry from Harvard, and Boston Children's Hospital respectively. She was on the faculty at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and on the staff at Boston's Children's Hospital from 1985-1987. From 1988-1991, she was on the faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry within the department of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Perkins has also worked as a community health pediatric dentist in Syracuse, New York; and in 1994 whe established her private pediatric dental practice within the city of New Orleans, Louisiana until 2002. From 2002-2009 She was on the faculty at the LSU School of Dentistry's Department of Pediatric Dentistry. In 2003, Dr. Perkins was President of the Pelican State Dental Association, and in 2004 was the President of the New Orleans Dental Society. In 2004, she was also the President of the Louisiana Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Teresa Perkins is currently an Associate Professor within the department of Pediatric and Public Health Dentistry at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. She is currently on the medical staff of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the Children's Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2007, she was elected to the Board of Trustees for the National Dental Association representing District IV. Research interests include experimental oral cancer, cancer prevention, dental caries prevention, childhood diseases, oral pathology, dental trauma, and craniofacial anomalies.
