Instructor Criteria

Advanced skills laboratory instructors

• Faculty or senior house officers of any department may be designated as instructor after certification by the director. Certification is easy, takes less than an hour, entails orientation of equipment and supplies, learning objectives and evaluation.
• Intent is for any UMMC faculty to instruct any procedure for which they have hospital privileges.

Patient simulation instructors

• If a METI-trained instructor operates the simulator controls, any UMMC faculty or senior resident is welcome to schedule and rehearse a simulation scenario and conduct (clinical) instruction/debriefing of trainees in the patient simulator lab.
• To operate the simulators, instructor must complete the two-day METI ECS simulator training workshop and undergo a refresher course by MASSEC staff once a year.
