Primary Care Day (PCD) is hosted each year by the M2 Evers Society members for the M1 class to promote interest in primary care specialties.
PCD is normally held a few weeks into the spring semester. The day starts off with breakfast and is followed by an introduction to each specialty by a faculty member. The primary care specialties are Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Ob-Gyn, Emergency Medicine, and Med/Peds.
After the introduction, students move to the Classroom Wing where each specialty has a station set up for students to rotate through. In the past, these stations have included suture workshops, intubation dummies, surgical knot-tying, echocardiogram demonstrations, ultrasound demonstrations, dermatology presentations and more.
The conclusion of PCD is a catered lunch after the rotations and is accompanied by a closing speaker and drawings for great door prizes. Door prizes have ranged from medical textbooks to gift cards from local restaurants to an entire honey-glazed ham. PCD is a great event that allows first-year medical students fun, hands-on exposure to medical specialties that they might not have had previously while allowing them to interact with doctors that will play integral roles in their medical education in the third and fourth years of medical school.
