I'm Brad Deere, running for ASB President. We have an exciting group of students running for this position and I'm honored to be among them. Thank you in advance for taking the time to vote next week (11/19).

    Why I am running ...

I was president of the SOM Class of 2014. For the past three years, I have provided leadership for my class and served as liaison between students and administration. This position allowed me to serve as a member of the Medical Student Council and ASB. As ASB President, I will continue to effectively facilitate interaction between students and administration. It can be difficult to put ideas in to motion during our short time here. Through my experiences as Class President and ASB representative, I have the foundation needed to jump start ideas and see our objectives through to completion. I believe I can hit the ground running and continue supporting the great student-run initiatives already in place while facilitating new initiatives/ideas such as: service projects, committees/working groups, speakers, student program implementation, increased campus recycling, and interprofessional cohesiveness.

I am Student Volunteer Co-coordinator and Interprofessional Liaison of the Jackson Free Clinic. During my M1 year, I often volunteered with pharmacy students at the JFC. The benefits of collaborating with other disciplines was obvious. Since then, I made it my goal to make the JFC a fully multidisciplinary clinic. Now SOM, SHRP, SOP, and SOD students collaborate at the JFC and the amount of good we do has increased tremendously. The JFC is a unique organization. Its missions, which are multiple and interdependent, are similar to UMMC's: healthcare, education, and research. I believe these missions are best achieved through a multidisciplinary approach with UMMC students' passion for service as the driving force. I hope to continue this line of work as ASB President.

    If elected ...

As ASB president, I plan to create a lasting structure for UMMC students to work collaboratively and thrive in an interprofessional environment. Taking the step sooner to build lasting relationships in our training will benefit us throughout our careers. I want us to go beyond our role as a student and see ourselves as future health care professionals who provide service to the community and promote the missions of UMMC. My goal is for ASB to provide opportunities for us to do this and serve as a launch pad for any ideas you may have. As ASB president, I will work to provide the tools, resources and networks to allow you to get the most from your time here at UMMC.

I am excited to be part of all the great things UMMC is doing and I hope to continue as ASB president. Thank you for your time and please vote for me to represent you as ASB president.
