    Areas of expertise

    •  General: Cardiovascular physiology, cardiovascular pharmacology, pharmacogenetics
    •  Specific: Vascular and renal mechanisms of hypertension; genetic mechanisms of differences on drug treatment responsiveness; matrix metalloproteinase and nitric oxide biology.

      Research methods

      • Studies in animals to examine cardiovascular and renal mechanisms implicated in the pathogenesis of pregnancy-induced hypertension
      • Animal models: rat and mouse
      • Surgical techniques: the reduced uterine perfusion pressure (RUPP) model, implantation of osmotic mini-pumps, implantation of carotid and jugular catheters
      • Studies in humans to investigate cardiovascular and genetic mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of pregnancy-induced hypertension
      • Molecular techniques: Protein, RNA, and DNA isolation, Zimography, PCR-RFLP, Real Time-PCR, ELISA, and Western Blot

      Current projects

Pregnancy, metabolic disorders (euglycemic hyperinsulinemia model, hyperleptinemia model, and high-fat diet-induced obesity model), and hypertension
