    Isolation requirements

    • Disease: Herpes simplex, neonatal
    • Category: Contact Precautions
    • Duration of isolation: Until all lesions dry and crusted
    • Comments: Also use Contact Precautions for asymptomatic, exposed infants delivered vaginally or by C-section if mother has active infection and membranes have been ruptured for more than 4 hours. Continue Contact Precautions until infant surface cultures obtained at 24-36 hours of age are negative following 48 hours incubation. Contact Infection Control at 4-2188 for assistance.
