  • How to Draw Blood for Laboratory

    • Take only necessary equipment into room. (Tourniquet and vacutainer are kept in room.) 
    • Leave open specimen bag with biohazard logo outside of room.
    • Affix appropriate labels to specimens container(s).
    • To enter isolation room, don appropriate garb as indicated on door sign.
    • With gloves on, draw blood.
    • Discard needles and syringes in the sharps container.
    • Standing in doorway, place labeled tubes in specimen bag being careful not to touch the outside of the bag. Leave any unused equipment in patient's room.
    •  Remove gloves and gown, wash hands, exit room.
    • Close specimen bag with clean hands outside of room.
