Science Training and Enrichment Program (STEP)
Science Training and Enrichment Program (STEP) is designed to provide academic enrichment in math, science, and critical thinking for disadvantaged/underserved (economically, academically disadvantaged) students. It is a Saturday Institute which serves disadvantaged students in grades 6-8. STEP encourages students to be academically successful and increases their awareness of health careers. STEP meets one Saturday each month during the school year.
Sessions for 2012-2013
In 2009-10, the focus was on the human heart, using a curriculum developed by the Association of Black Cardiologists. During the 2010-11 STEP Program, the human kidney was the health focus in partnership with the Mississippi Kidney Foundation. "The Brilliant Brain" was the health theme for 2011-12.
In 2012-13, the digestive system is the focus.
