Mission of MercyHeart Transplant
  • Science Training and Enrichment Program (STEP)

Science Training and Enrichment Program (STEP) is designed to provide academic enrichment in math, science, and critical thinking for disadvantaged/underserved (economically, academically disadvantaged) students.  It is a Saturday Institute which serves disadvantaged students in grades 6-8. STEP encourages students to be academically successful and increases their awareness of health careers. STEP meets one Saturday each month during the school year.

    Sessions for 2012-2013

In 2009-10, the focus was on the human heart, using a curriculum developed by the Association of Black Cardiologists.  During the 2010-11 STEP Program, the human kidney was the health focus in partnership with the Mississippi Kidney Foundation. "The Brilliant Brain" was the health theme for 2011-12.

In 2012-13, the digestive system is the focus.
