Clinical Elective Diversity Program
The University of Mississippi Medical Center has a long-standingcommitment to increasing diversity in is training programs. The aimof the Clinical Elective Diversity Program for VisitingStudents is to provide students from diverse backgrounds,including underrepresented in medicine (URM), the opportunity tohave an outstanding clinical training experience at the Universityof Mississippi Medical Center. Students will experience first-handwhat the Medical Center has to offer.
Consideration is given to students from diverse backgrounds,including socio-economically and/or academically disadvantaged**,rural/urban, underrepresented in medicine and first-genertationcollege graduates.

Additional Information
- If selected for participation in the Clinical ElectiveDiversity Program for Visiting Students, you will beeligible to receive one of four $2000 stipends to defray travel andhousing expenses while on rotation.
- Applicants to this program must be 4th year medical students ingood academic standing from an LCME accredited institution.
- Selection may depend upon availability of rotationrequested.
- CEDP rotations should be scheduled during the months ofAugust, September, October, or November.
- There are no additional fees or tuition associated withparticipation in this program.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center Campus, Jackson, Mississippi
The University of Mississippi Medical Center has three missions: education, research, and patient care. University of Mississippi Health Care UMHC) identifies the patient care mission. UMHC encompasses specialty hospital and clinical practice sites across the State of Mississippi. It serves as the 722-bed diagnostic and treatment referral center for the state and is the only Level I trauma center in Mississippi. Inpatients total about 27,000 annually with more than 418,000 outpatient and emergency visits every year.
Our Facilities

University Hospital
The University Hospital is the flagship hospital of the UMMC campuswith 256 beds for adult patient care and includes a critical carefacility with specialized intensive care units including medical,cardiac, surgical, and neuroscience.
Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants
The Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants offers complete care forwomen and infants with the only OB/GYN emergency room in the state.The neonatal intensive care unit offers the highest level of carefor critically-ill infants with the only Level III designation inMississippi.
Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children
The Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children is the only children'shospital in Mississippi. Included in the 130-bed facility are areasfor physical therapy, infant care, treatment rooms, bone marrowtransplantation, a pediatric pharmacy, a children's surgical suite,a pediatric emergency room, and the state's only pediatricintensive care unit.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The VAMC is an educational site for several of our UMMC residencyprograms. The collaboration with VAMC promotes common standards forpatient care, resident and student education and research.
Community-Based Hospitals
Community-based hospitals also participate in the education ofgraduate medical education trainees in many of our programs toensure a robust, well-rounded educational experience.
Graduate Medical Education at The University ofMississippi Medical Center enrolls approximately 135 new residentsannually. We currently have 475 total residents in 38 accreditedresidency programs. Core programs include: Primary Care Specialties(Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine-Pediatrics, Family Medicine,Pediatrics, and Ob-gyn); Anesthesiology, Radiology, GeneralSurgery, Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neurology,Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Pathology,Plastic Surgery, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery; Psychiatry, Urology, aswell as sub-specialties of the core programs.
