  • Molecular and Genomics Educational Activities

The Molecular and Genomics Core facility offers several educational activities, including:

    Hands-on training

Core personnel will instruct investigators, staff and students from interested laboratories on the standard operating procedures for core equipment and services. Interested parties will be trained to properly prepare and store high quality RNA and DNA samples and on downstream uses (microarray, real-time PCR, etc.).

    Seminar series

The core sponsors frequent work-in-progress and/or journal presentation series for investigators, trainees and students to present data, interact with mentors and hear constructive critiques of projects involving molecular and genomic approaches. This seminar series provides a forum in which the core director will discuss the latest technologies and talk to investigators on how to best use the core facilities in their research design.

    Poster presentation

UMMC hosts several research days each year, including Neuroscience Research Day, Graduate Student Research Day, as well as, several national or international symposia each year (e.g. Gulf Coast Physiological Society, Global Obesity Summit, and APS Physiology of Cardiovascular Disease: Gender Disparities). The Core uses these opportunities to promote its capabilities to attending faculty and staff by poster presentation. Posters highlight the Core's technical expertise, equipment, analysis capabilities and present examples of current projects (with permission from participating investigators).
