The priority deadline for aid applications is March 1st. Applications received after the priority deadline will be processed on first come, first served basis if funds are still available. All documents required to process your aid must be completed and received by our office by March 1st to meet the priority deadline. In order for the Federal Processor to process your FAFSA by the priority deadline, it is advisable that you apply online no later than three weeks prior to the priority deadline. Tax returns are required to complete the FAFSA. If errors are found on the FAFSA, your application will be delayed 2-3 weeks for corrections so it is not advisable to estimate income information.
(PIN) online at www.pin.ed.gov.
Wait for the results of your FAFSA from the Federal Processor (approximately 3 weeks for web application and 6 weeks for paper application). After submitting the FAFSA, the federal processor will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR) via e-mail if you provide a valid e-mail address on your FAFSA. Students who do not have an e-mail address, or who do not provide one will receive a paper SAR. Also, applicants who provide their e-mail address on their FAFSA, but do not provide all required signatures, will receive paper SAR's so that the Federal Processor can collect signatures. Check the SAR for accuracy and if necessary, make corrections. If there are no corrections and UMMC is listed as the school to receive your information, please retain the SAR for your records. Approximately one week after the processor sends the Student Aid Report to you, they will send us the data contained on your application if UMMC is listed and if you have been accepted for admission. This data provides a detailed analysis of the financial information you reported and the data needed to determine your eligibility for financial assistance.
The student must complete Loan Entrance Counseling by completing the process on the Web site UMMC Loan Entrance Counseling.
Thirty percent of all aid applicants are selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education and verified by our office through review of tax documents. This is to ensure that your FAFSA was completed correctly. Your SAR will tell you if you have been selected. We will send a request for copies of student's (parent/spouse, if applicable) tax transcript and a Verification Worksheet. Provide requested documents as soon as possible. If not provided within 60 days of the request, your file will be marked inactive and no award will be made. Our office will make corrections to your SAR, if necessary, as a result of verification. You will be notified by the Federal Processor and/or our office either with a corrected SAR or a revised Award Letter. This process will result in a 2-3 week delay. A FAFSA that is completed correctly will not require corrections.
